Institution:
Aim: In this section I will identify what type of music videos are created by the record labels of one of my own songs as well as the other videos I have analysed. I will also compare and contrast how my music video conforms and/or deveates away from the conventions of the record labels music video.
Define: Institution is something to do with an organisation who produces records for consumption.
Explain: An Institution is a company/organisation that chooses to distribute your film or music video.
For our music video we are using a song called 'Not at home' by Peter Broderick from the album 'Home'. This album has been produced by Bella Union, who are an independent record label. As well as creating my own music video, I have also analysed two other music videos which I feel portray a similar storyline to mine. I have been inspired by artists such as Ed Sheeran and Justice. 'Stress' by Justice is a documentary styled video, directed by Romain Gavras. Justice was produced by the record label Ed Banger and can be classed as being a very low budgeted production due to the content of media language. The second of my analysed music videos is the 'A Team' by Ed Sheeran, his music video of a vulnerably housed girl is produced by the record label Atlantic records and directed by Ruskin Kyle. It is also known for being a documentary styled music video.
The last music video I am analysing is by The Paper Kites and is named 'Featherstone'. This video was produced by Wonderlick Recording Company II Nettwerk Records and directed by Pete Seamons.
The three music videos we have analysed have all been published on to social media sites such as Vimeo and Youtube. Not only have they been displayed on the internet, they are also available to the public on music channels such as MTV and Starzmusic. Our music video 'Not At Home' would most certainly benefit from being released on these social media sites and music channels as many young teenagers spend their time watching/listening to the music videos which are posted and most definitely can relate to the scenario we are portraying of teenage pregnancy/ taking on the responsibility of a sibling that is of such a young age.
The song we have chosen to incorporate within our music video 'Not At Home' by Peter Broderick comes under the record label of Bella Union. This record label is best known for producing music such as 'indie rock' and 'alternative acoustic'.

After watching the different music videos that Bella Union have produced such as 'Parallel Flights' by Ryan Francesconi and his partner Mirabai Peart. There are many similar locations and traits which can be identified within our own music video. For instance a hand held camera has been used and the audience are given the idea that this male character we are introduced to at an early stage, is on a journey to an unknown destination.
I have also watched the music video 'On And On' by Thousands. This music video is exceptionally similar to my own music video 'Not At Home' as it features conventions such as amateur looking - footage due to the use of a hand held camera. It follows the journey of a character, it is also non performance based and uses a variety of locations such as a cafe and woods. This is very similar to the areas the characters in my music video visit, as these are places that are cheap and easily accesssable for people in a socially vulnerable position.
