MUSIC VIDEO 1 - STRESS BY JUSTICE
The identified narrative within the music video 'Stress'?
The message which these youths are trying to portray can be classed as both negative but with a positive slant. This is because of course the chaos this gang is producing is being harmful and dangerous to the people around, however, they are trying to put across a positive message in that they are trying to portray the current situation for youth in France whose voice is not being heard.

MUSIC VIDEO 2 - A TEAM BY ED SHEERAN
The identified narrative within the music video 'The A Team'?
Essentially the message being sent to the audience by the young girl in this music video is, being vulnerably housed often means drugs and other harmful things will somehow be connected to people who are classed as being unemployed/vulnerably housed. The audience are drawn into feeling sympathy for this young girl due to the effective use of lighting, editing and costume which portrays her as being helpless and in need of attention. The ending of the music video suggests to the audience that the structure and narrative cannot fall under one theory.

MUSIC VIDEO 3 - FEATHERSTONE BY THE PAPER KITES
The identified narrative within the music video 'Featherstone'?
The narrative behind the music video 'Featherstone' by The Paper Kites is very similar to the style of a documentary video. The audience are allowed to follow a group of children on their journey through forest/woodland. All characters are dressed in 'animal looking costumes'. The performance of the children begins very minimalist until the last scene, in which we see the children participate in a pillow fight. The atmosphere created is very relaxed and fun.
Roland Barthes code theory:
The Hermeneutic code - (The voice of the truth) This code refers to the way a story avoids revealing information/facts and telling the truth, through doing this a sense of mystery is created. Within 'The A Team' this code can be identified at the beginning of the music video where the girl can be seen laying dead, which urges the audience to ask questions as to what has happened to her. In the music video 'Stress' the audience are prone to feeling a distance relationship between themselves and the characters due to the video beginning with their backs turned and the camera being at a lower angle, making the audience feel at a lower status early on and asking what may happen next. In 'Featherstone' by The Paper Kites the audience are immediately drawn towards the character of the video due to the media language and calm tempo of the music. This also leaves the audience expectant and wanting to know what occur ahead.
The Enigma/ Proairetic code - (Empirical voice) This code refers to tension, built up by the sequence of events within the video and also signify that something else will happen next. In 'The A Team' tension arises when the young girl who is supposed dead, becomes alive again as we see her lying awake on a park bench. This presumes to the audience that the storyline has rewinded however, the tension is not lost as the audience are prone to seeing her poor way of life due to her costume revealing she is homeless. Within 'Stress' tension is straight away created. This is due to the violence and behaviour the audience witness from the teenagers very early on and suggests that this is an ongoing thing within their society. 'Featherstone' however, creates a different type of tension compared to both 'The A Team' and 'Stress'. Instead an atmosphere of confusion and excitement is built due to the audiences reactions to wondering why these young children are in the forest on their own dressed in animal furred costumes. But due to the activities which are shown at a later stage of the video, the audience are able to enjoy it.
The Semantic code - (The voice of the person) The Semantic code refers to the connotation received within the storyline and how information and meanings are accounted. In 'The A Team' it is clear to the audience that the young girl is homeless due to her dress attire, behaviour and generally the fact that her day consists very differently to those who have money, for example: she hands out 'The Big Issue'. In 'Stress' the audience are right away shown the lifestyle and living state of these young teenagers and therefore a meaning of disrespect and lack of communication can be identified.
The Symbolic code - (The voice of symbols) This code virtually the same as the Semantic code however, the Symbolic code works on a higher and wider level, showing semantic meanings in a deeper set of meaning. In 'The A Team' the audience are made aware of the struggle the young girl faces with getting money and therefore results to prostitution as well as drugs to emphasise her sad lifestyle. In 'Stress' the audience are shown the lack of respect the teenagers have towards their community. There appears to be a lack of communication resulting in the behaviour of these teenagers as they feel they are worth nothing and therefore show their frustration by putting people at a lower status than themselves. 'Featherstone' displays a completely different message than both the other two music videos and essentially shows young girl children having fun and exploring.

The Cultural code - (The voice of science) This code refers to the audiences pre existing knowledge and ideologies and how they can relate to a piece of text. In 'The A Team' the young girl that we see has stereotypical characteristics to those who really are homeless, due to the rugged clothing she wears of ripped tights, a big coat and smudged makeup. She is also spends her days doing activities similar to those who are homeless by selling the 'Big Issue' and begging people for extra money.
